During the 'Gold Chain Tragedy', many People were left injured and in a near-death state. Among the injured was the one of the developers of the Cyber Terminal : Laguna Stratsford, 15. A year 2 student attending Dawn Eterno High School. He was left in a near-death state after pushing a fellow classmate away from an oncoming attack by a beast. This resulted in his own demise.
As people around Laguna sought frantically for help, he soon drifted into what he thought was eternal sleep.
When Laguna woke up, he found himself in a vast landscape devoid of any colour. There, Laguna met 'Kei', a being shrouded in light and Alice, his guardian angel. It was then that Laguna discovered that victims of the beast attacks have gained the ability to transform into people with special powers. It was the same for him.
Kei then offered Laguna the contract of life, a chance for him to continue with his life, on one condition: he was to serve under Kei. Laguna was to be Kei's knight and his mission, was to rid the world of the beast threat, as the Light Master, Gaia.

2007 A.D, rapid improvements in technology have led to the rise of virtual-reality research.
2012 A.D, programmers residing at the software giant 'Cyber Vision' or 'CV' has successfully written the world's first virtual-reality gaming engine.
2017 A.D, the world's first virtual-reality gaming console was developed. It was known as the Cyber Terminal or 'CT' for short. Along with it, came the virtual-reality online role-playing game (online RPG), 'Cyberspace', the first of its kind.
13 July 2017, 2 weeks after the unveiling of the Cyber Terminal to the world, tragedy struck. Unknown beasts appeared throughout the city of Eterno and began to attack the helpless. The attack ended as swift as it had begun. All this happened during a heavy shower of objects which resembled gold chains.
This incident hence became known as the 'Gold Chain Tragedy'.
